General Information
&
History of SVNH

South Vancouver Neighbourhood House (SVNH) is a member unit of:

Association of Neighbourhood Houses of Greater Vancouver
www.anhgv.org

The Association of Neighbourhood Houses (ANH) is a nonprofit society operating in the Province of British Columbia with a history reaching back to 1894.  ANH was incorporated as a society in 1964 and is registered as a charitable organization with the Canadian Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA).

South Vancouver Neighbourhood House has existed as a member of ANH at our present location since 1977.

A Neighbourhood House is a private social service agency offering activities and services designed to the needs of the particular area of the city in which it is located.  Our mandate is to seek to develop harmonious relationships among community groups of different cultures, economic, religious and social backgrounds.  Programs and services are determined by conditions within each community and by the needs and interests of the people living in that community.

Because the Neighbourhood House is familiar and easily accessible, it is effective in reaching people and helping them with their community aspirations and problems.  As a non-government organization it is a resource centre with the flexibility to meet changing neighbourhood conditions and needs.  It differs from most other social organizations in that it is concerned about the community as a whole and works toward improving the quality of both community and family life.  Programs and services reach all age groups and a diverse population – men, women, people of different abilities and different sexual orientations and people of many diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds.

"Neighbourhood Houses build strong, independent communities.  Neighbourhood Houses encourage people to thrive.  A Neighbourhood House is a partnership between individuals, neighbours, government and private enterprise."
(Quoted from: Australian Neighbourhood House website www.netc.au/neighbour)

Donations

As a private social service agency we rely heavily on funding from various sources, but we could not continue to function without the generous support of our community.

Your donations are welcome, needed, and very much appreciated.
