Seniors' Volunteer Opportunities
South Vancouver Neighbourhood House can always use a little warm and friendly help with our Seniors Peer Support and other Volunteer Programs. Our valuable Volunteers have enjoyed many benefits of volunteering, and have mentioned that, in addition to helping out, it is a pretty good way to meet other seniors and connect to the community. So far, our Volunteers have helped as:
- Friendly Neighbours (a one-to-one personal visiting program)
- Hello Neighbours (a telephone visiting program)
- Steering Committee Members (guiding the Seniors’ programs)
- Information and Referral Assistants (helping with government forms, documents and applications)
- Group Facilitators
- Program Assistants (for our Thursday Wellness and Tuesday Social Seniors Programs)
- Kitchen Assistants
- Lunch Buddies (being matched with a new senior to help welcome him/her into House programs)
- Blood Pressure Readers and Schedulers (for our weekly clinic)
- Entertainers
- Speakers
- Walking Club Coordinators
- Special Events Teammates
- Administrative Aides
If you would like to volunteer in one of these areas, or would like to work together to develop another volunteer program, please call Paula Khan at SVNH at 604-324-6212, or send me an email at paula@southvan.org. We ask that you fill out an application, attend an interview and an orientation – and of course have a tour of our great facility. Should you decide to work one on one with another senior, a more comprehensive training will be offered.
